Cubellis to Participate in Big Builder 09 Virtual Event

As one of five hand-selected “Dream Teams,” this D.C. metro-based team, including Cubellis, Christopher Communities, Elm Street Development, Pulte Homes and Winchester Homes, tackled rethinking the current land plan behind a rather large tract nestled in a discrete corner of Brambleton, a successful master planned community in Northern Virginia. Shifting demographics and improving accessibility suggest the next wave of Brambleton buyers may be very different than today’s residents. Will their plan meet home buyer expectations in 2014?

Find out the answer on Friday, November 20 at 1:15pm Eastern when the Washington D.C. team will present their final plan during a live Webinar, followed by a Q&A session. All you need to do to participate is register at www.bigbuilderconference.com

Cubellis Displays Two Award Winning Projects at Build Boston November 18-20, 2009

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Build Boston, which will be held from November 18-20, 2009 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston, MA. Cubellis was selected to represent their architecture and interiors work with displays of two Projects; Pepper Hamilton, a law firm designed by the Workplace Solutions group in Boston, and XL Capital, the regional headquarters for an international insurance company, designed by a Cubellis team in Philadelphia and Wayne, PA.

The XL Capital project team, comprised of the Wayne and Philadelphia offices, collaborated on this project in Exton, PA. The team worked in conjunction with the client to develop a building design suited for this specific site and use, and crafted a program for sustainability and environmental stewardship that earned them a LEED Gold certification. This building stands as a testimony to the collaboration of many disciplines, consultants and designers who came together with a single vision, guided by a knowledgeable and insightful client.

Pepper Hamilton LLP, a 100 year old national law firm, asked Cubellis to design a branch office in downtown Boston. Hamilton’s new 23,000 SF Boston office reflects expressions that ranged from a solid secure, traditional look to a cutting edge, modern, high tech environment. Cubellis challenged the firm to reflect on who they were, and helped them distill the message that the design would deliver.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Takes Place for Kennedy Health Systems

Kennedy Health Systems - Sewell, NJ

Kennedy Health Systems - Sewell, NJ

On Tuesday October 20th , Kennedy Health Systems, a Hospital in Sewell, NJ, held their groundbreaking ceremoney. Therenovation project, including a sub acute-care addition was designed by a group of Principals and project managers from Cubellis’ Philadelphia office.

Cubellis challenged conventional thinking for this 60-bed rehabilitation addition, resulting in a decision to orient the building toward its customer base—an adjacent acute-care hospital—rather than toward its parent skilled-care center. Still, by working closely with staff, they were able to affect significant improvements to the combined facility operation through careful configuration of the connection and related service areas.

A warm and welcoming hospitality feel is consistent with typical 2-3 week patient recovery periods. Innovative guest rooms, nursing areas and social spaces are arranged to promote a high degree of interaction and a sense of personalized service. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2010.

For more information on this project, please contact John Kohlhas, Principal, in our Philadelphia office at jkohlhas@cubellis.com or 215.732.0772.

Cubellis’ Academic Practice Hired for Bloomfield High School Renovations

Bloomfield High School, Bloomfield, NJ

Bloomfield High School, Bloomfield, NJ

Bloomfield High School, housing approximately 2000 students within grades 9-12, has asked Cubellis to return to the site for another project. Cubellis was able to provide exceptional service during an exterior renovation of the school, which is a nationally registered historic building. After completing a conditions assessment on the site, the Academic team replaced the roof, windows and doors on the building.

This time, Cubellis has been hired by the board of education to assess construction needs and repair costs of their 75 year-old stadium, Foley Field, which has been unused since July of this year. Students, parents and faculty are all eager to use their field again, and boost the team’s spirit.

“The board of education made strides last week, voting unanimously in favor of hiring Cubellis Architects for $18,000 to assess construction needs at the 75-year-old stadium. The firm, based in Boston, will determine the stadium’s repair cost, which may go to a public referendum vote in March,” said schools superintendent Frank Digesere.
